This guide provides a step-by-step process for registering for Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) feature, allowing you to reset your password in case you forget it.

Why is Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset being implemented

Microsoft’s Self-Service Password Reset provides the following enhanced features when resetting your password:

  • Simpler user experience for password reset
  • Allows multiple authentication methods beyond email authentication
  • Uses Microsoft’s built-in security features, ensuring your information is safe.

Step 1: Access the SSPR Registration Page

1. Open a web browser on your device.
2. Navigate to the Microsoft SSPR registration page: https://aka.ms/ssprsetup

Step 2: Sign in with Your LSCPA Account

1. Enter your school email address and click 'Next'.
- Students: Tnumber@my.lamarpa.edu
- Employees: username@lamarpa.edu

2. Enter your password and click 'Sign in'.
   - If prompted for multi-factor authentication (MFA), follow the on-screen instructions to complete it.

Step 3: Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app

  • Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
  • Select "Work or school" in the app and allow notifications.
  • Use the app to scan the QR code shown on your computer.
  • Approve the notification by entering the number displayed.
  • Receive a "Notification approved" message.
  • "Microsoft Authenticator app was successfully registered."

Step 4: Verify Your Identity

Click on ‘Add sign-in method’ to add a new authentication method. You will need to add at least 1 authentication method, in addition to the default password method. Select one and follow the steps below for each method:

  • Go to the security settings page of your account.
  • Click on Add sign-in method to set up a new authentication option.

Phone: Provide your phone number and verify it with a code sent via SMS or call.

  • Enter your phone number and select "Receive a code" or "Call me."
  • Enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your phone.
  • Receive confirmation that your phone is registered and click "Done."

Email: Enter your recovery email address and verify it with the code sent to your inbox.

  • Enter the desired email address and click "Next."
  • Check the provided email for a verification code.
  • Enter the received code and click "Next."
  • A confirmation message indicates successful registration.

Step 5: Confirm Your Registration

Once you have verified the required authentication methods, you will see a confirmation message indicating that you have successfully registered for SSPR.

Step 6: Test the SSPR Feature

1. Go to the Microsoft SSPR password reset page: https://aka.ms/sspr
2. Follow the instructions to reset your password to ensure your registration was successful.
