Guide to Register for Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)

Summary

LSCO Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a Microsoft-delivered service that lets enrolled users reset their own password. You MUST enroll with SSPR before you try to use it to reset your password.

Body

This guide walks you through registering for Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR), so you can reset your Microsoft/Office 365 password on your own without contacting the Help Desk.

Note: This is separate from the myGator password reset tool. SSPR is specifically for your LSCO Microsoft account (Office 365, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

Before you start

  • Have your LSCO email address and password ready
  • Have your phone nearby - you will need it to set up authentication
  • Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone before beginning

Steps

Step 1 - Go to the SSPR registration page
Open a browser and navigate to https://aka.ms/ssprsetup

Step 2 - Sign in with your LSCO account
Enter your LSCO email address and click Next.

  • Students: username@my.lsco.edu
  • Employees: username@lsco.edu

Enter your password and click Sign in. If prompted for multi-factor authentication (MFA), complete it before continuing.

Step 3 - Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, select Work or school account, and allow notifications. Then:

  • Scan the QR code shown on your computer screen
  • Approve the notification by entering the number displayed on screen
  • You will see a Notification approved message, then Microsoft Authenticator app was successfully registered

Step 4 - Add an additional authentication method
You must add at least one more authentication method. Click Add sign-in method and choose either Phone or Email.

Phone
Enter your phone number and select Receive a code or Call me. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your phone, then click Done.

Email
Enter a personal recovery email address and click Next. Check your inbox for a verification code, enter it, and click Next. A confirmation message will appear when complete.

Step 5 - Confirm your registration
Once all authentication methods are set up, you will see a confirmation message that you have successfully registered for SSPR.

Step 6 - Test it
Go to https://aka.ms/sspr and follow the prompts to confirm your reset works before you ever need it.
